Google search engine guilty of illegal monopoly, the decision of the American court
Washington: The American court found Google guilty of illegal monopoly in a case filed against the search engine.
A US federal judge ruled that Google violated antitrust laws, spending billions of dollars to establish an illegal monopoly and become the world’s default search engine.
The court decision is the first major victory for federal authorities against the market dominance of big tech companies, paving the way for a second trial to determine possible reforms, possibly including the breakup of Google parent Alphabet. Online advertising will change the landscape of the world that Google has dominated for years.
According to a foreign news agency report, US District Judge Amit Mehta wrote in a 277-page decision that the court has come to the conclusion that Google is a monopoly and has adopted illegal methods to maintain its monopoly.
In its decision, the court said that Google controls about 90 percent of the online search market share and 95 percent of smartphones.
The court ruling says that Google must stop its anti-competitive behavior, saying that Google’s exclusive deals with Apple and other mobile companies are in violation of competition laws.
In the ruling, the US judge added that Google’s high fees for online advertising showed its monopoly power in online search.
In this regard, US Attorney General Merrick Garland called this decision a historic victory for the American people, saying that no company, no matter how big or influential, is above the law.
White House Press Secretary Karen Jean-Pierre said that this court decision is a victory for the American people, who want an Internet that is free, fair and open to competition.
